Technical Assistance Program

The PHRD's Technical Assistance Program assists countries in enhancing their technical and institutional capacities under the following thematic pillars:

  • Accelerating Progress toward Universal Health Coverage (UHC) - a flagship program established in 2016 to promote UHC in low- and middle-income countries and strengthen national health systems. In fiscal year 2024, UHC provided advisory services and analytics in health financing, human resources for health, breakthrough innovations and disruptive technology, ageing and long-term care, climate-health nexus and disaster risk management, as well as pandemic preparedness.
  • Global South Pillar - launched in April 2025, this pillar initially focuses on addressing critical food and nutrition security challenges in Africa.

In fiscal year 2024, the Technical Assistance Program - the PHRD¡¯s largest grant program - amounted to US$33.8 million, comprising seven recipient-executed grants, at US$17.7 million, and 30 ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳-executed disbursing accounts, at US$16.1 million.
