The Global South (GS) Pillar of the PHRD¡¯s Technical Assistance program seeks to provide adaptive and responsive support to address multidimensional crises in developing countries. Its thematic priorities will be shaped through consultations with the ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ and Japan and could evolve over time, ensuring both relevance and impact.

Transforming Africa¡¯s Future through Food and Nutrition Security

The GS Pillar was launched in April 2025 with an initial focus on addressing food and nutrition security challenges in Africa. This topic has been selected because it is closely aligned with the ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ Group's Global Challenge Program on Food and Nutrition Security (), Government of Japan's strategic priorities, and the pillars of the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development ().

Boosting Rice Production with CARD

The GS Pillar will also support activities aligned with Phase 2 of , strengthening ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳-JICA collaboration to promote rice production in sub-Saharan Africa. JICA provides technical assistance to CARD countries, helping to formulate National Rice Development Strategies and project proposals. The GS Pillar will complement these efforts with targeted financing and technical assistance.
