On June 20, 2025, ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ Tokyo Development Learning Center (TDLC) and City of Sapporo formalized their partnership with Sapporo City¡¯s participation in the TDLC  City Partnership Program (CPP).

The CPP is the cornerstone of the knowledge sharing activities of TDLC, and is being expanded to include more Japanese cities that can provide the knowledge and inspiration to ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ client countries that aspire to develop more livable and sustainable cities. Sapporo is a new addition to the CPP and the partnership with the city will further strengthen TDLC¡¯s position as livable cities knowledge hub.

Katsuhiro Akimoto, Mayor of Sapporo City, welcomed the opportunity and said ¡°We look forward to connecting with the world and contributing internationally through this partnership.¡±

Sapporo will be the first CPP city north of Tokyo. The city's expertise in urban development in cold climates will add new value to TDLC's knowledge-sharing activities.

¡± Sapporo city has also been actively collaborating with the private sector and other stakeholders for effective urban redevelopment and regeneration, where our client countries have much interest in learning. The city has a great tourism and urban development strategy, serving as tourism hub in the wider Hokkaido region¡± said Angelica Nunez, Practice Manager of the Global Programs Unit in the Urban, Resilience, and Land Global Practice of the ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳. ¡°We look forward to learning from Sapporo, and at the same time, we hope the city will equally gain from our activities.¡±
