ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳

The Japan-ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ Program for Mainstreaming Disaster Risk Management in Developing Countries (Program) has been operational since 2014 with support by the Government of Japan. Its main goal is to mainstream disaster risk management (DRM) into national development planning and investment programs, through ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ operation. The Program also strives to connect Japanese and global expertise in DRM with developing countries.

The event will host keynote presentations and a panel discussion, inviting the author of the report ¡°¡± and the Japanese experts from public and private sector involved in planning and operating lifelines infrastructure to discuss the challenges and opportunities for enhancing infrastructure resiliency to natural hazards. The keynote presentation will introduce the recently published report which finds that the lack of resilient infrastructure (water and sanitation, energy, transport and telecommunication) and poor maintenance and mismanagement of infrastructure harms people and firms more than previously understood. The report also makes recommendation for investment on resilient infrastructure. This discussion will highlight the economic value of investing in more resilient infrastructure, provide recommendations for strengthening infrastructure resilience, and show examples how resiliency is being built in Japan¡¯s lifeline networks.
