Dina Abu-Ghaida was appointed ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ Group Country Manager for Yemen, effective July 1, 2024. Prior to this assignment, Abu-Ghaida was the Bank¡¯s Human Development Program Leader for Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria. In this role, she coordinated the ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳¡¯s policy dialogue and operations in education, health, and social protection in these countries. In her previous position as Lead Economist in the Education Global Practice of the ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳, she led policy dialogue and ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ support to the education sector in Nigeria, Jordan, and Yemen.

Since joining the ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ in 2000, she has led teams working on education sector projects and analytical reports in several countries in Central Asia, Africa, and the Middle East ¨C including in conflict-affected settings. Her experience in the education sector spans from early childhood education to higher education, with a focus on education finance, where she has conducted reviews of education expenditure in several countries and per-student financing in transition economies. In recent years, she has supported education sector recovery in countries affected by fragility and conflict, as well as addressing the education needs of refugees and their host communities.

She holds a BA in Biochemistry from Harvard University, and an MA in Arab Studies and a PhD in Economics from Georgetown University.
