Mr. Babacar S. Faye is the ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ Group (WBG) Country Manager for Burundi as of July 1, 2025. He oversees the operations of all WBG institutions in both the public and private sectors of Burundi, including the ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ (WB), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA). His appointment is part of a recent initiative aimed at unifying and strengthening the WBG¡¯s representation at the country-level.
Mr. Faye joined the WBG in 2006 as a Legal Advisor, based in Johannesburg, South Africa. He has since worked in a dozen countries and held various leadership positions within the IFC, the largest global development institution focused on the private sector in emerging markets. Mr. Faye has notably served as the Resident Representative of the IFC in Nepal, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Liberia, and Sierra Leone.
Before joining the WBG, Mr. Faye worked at the New York office of the international business law firm White & Case, where he handled international project finance transactions and public-private partnerships. He began his professional career in Senegal, where he worked in a pension fund, a consulting firm supporting SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) and at a business school as adjunct professor.
Mr. Faye is a business lawyer by training and a member of the New York State Bar (USA). He has studied at Cheikh Anta Diop University (Dakar, Senegal), Fordham University (New York, USA), and Paris 1 Panth¨¦on-Sorbonne University (Paris, France). He holds two master¡¯s degrees in banking law and corporate and finance law, and a JD in Business Law.
Mr. Faye is a Senegalese national.
