The scope of work associated with the Compact with Africa Technical Assistance will cover the following two tasks:   Task 1: Value Chain analysis. Forests in Rwanda can be managed for timber and non-timber forest products. Rwanda¡¯s forest sector has room for improving productivity. There are ongoing efforts to promote the enhancement of forest management and forest productivity for both timber and non-timber. For purposes of this consultancy the focus will be on the following value chains ¨C apiculture; essential oils; bamboo and plus value chains that also contribute to both productive goods and ecosystem services (e.g.; timber production and seedling production). For each of these value chains the following analysis will be completed: 1.1   Potential markets ¨C domestic; regional and global for the specified value chains1.1   Map out the value chain for the products1.2   Benchmarking Rwanda against top 2 producers in the market most suitable for Rwanda (for each of the value chains.1.3   Propose improvements to the current value chain to position Rwanda to be more competitive for each of the products. Task 2: Suitable area for expanding the proposed value chains and the ecosystem services associated with the specific value chains listed above The work associated with this consultancy will be done in close collaboration with the Rwanda Forest Authority within the Ministry of Environment .
