As part of its efforts to remain up to date with the latest technology developments and market dynamics in the solid waste sector; IFC is looking to appoint a specialist consultant (“the Consultant”) to undertake a review of the market for bio-methanol obtained from landfill gas (LFG) and Anaerobic Digestion (AD) biogas globally; with a primary (but not limited) focus on the use of the bio-methanol as a fuel for the shipping industry as part of their decarbonization efforts. The purpose of this assignment is to provide: 1) an overview of the current status of technical and commercial development of bio-methanol markets globally; covering both supply and demand side; 2) an informed view of how the bio-methanol markets can be expected to develop over the next 5 to 10 years for selected industries; and; 3) an assessment of what would be the key competition differentiators that may determine success or failure for private players looking to develop bio-methanol projects.
